It's Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas

December 1st.......We are officially on a Christmas countdown in the Mall household.

As you can see, it's beginning to look a lot like Christmas inside our house. I'm adding a quick update on Trav because today was a great day! Today's events have nothing to do with Christmas other than the fact that Jason and I both feel like we have received the best Christmas gift of all and we wanted to share our experience with all of you!
Travin’s first day went extremely well. He was a little nervous this morning when we walked into his new classroom but his new teacher made him feel right at home. She took his hand and led him around the classroom. She showed him the different things they do throughout the day. She talked to him about centers and some of the things he will get to do. She showed him his desk and where he could put all of his supplies. She explained the classroom rules and explained to him what the buttons on his desk meant. She got down on his level and just simply talked to him. It was absolutely wonderful! He was brave but wasn’t ready to let mom go. I stayed for a few minutes. When it was time for me to go, he started to cry so I promised to be back for a special lunch date with him and his new friends. By the time I made it back to the school, I was a distant memory :-)

For the first time since school started, I walked into a kindergarten class that was full of happy children chatting and smiling as they made big dots to place onto a gingerbread rooftop that will be displayed outside on their classroom wall. Trav was so excited to show me the two dots he created with glitter glue. When I asked him how his day was going he said “Mommy, I’m having a great day” I can’t even begin to explain what those words meant to me.

Jason left work early today and met me at the school. He wanted to meet Travin’s teacher so, we decided to make it a special occasion by picking him up together. The first words out of his teacher’s mouth when we walked through the door were “He is absolutely wonderful” She explained that he had a great day and that it didn’t take long for him to meet some new friends.

Every night before I tuck Travin into bed, he asks me “the day after tomorrow (meaning tomorrow) do we have school?” Usually my answer is yes and he will either say I don’t want to go or oh. Tonight when I tucked my son into bed he asked me that famous nightly question. When I said yes, he jumped up and said “YES!”

For the first time since he left preschool, our son is excited to go to school. My Christmas wish came true!!!
