{Sixty-Two Magical Years}

May 6th was a very special day for the Mall family.

Yesterday the two people who created the family that I feel so fortunate to be a part of celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary.

I know that I probably don’t have the right to share this moment and if I overstep, I apologize. However, I just couldn’t let something as special as this just pass me by.

I have been a part of the Mall Family since I was 14 years old. For over half of my life I have known this beautiful family, the family that I now call my own. I didn’t know then that I would one day share the last name or that one day I would be able to have children who would carry on the traits of this amazing family.

By the time I was 16, I had met just about everyone in Jason’s family. The first time I met the Mall side of the family, I was embraced with open arms. Those arms have never left my side.

The bond I developed with Jason’s family was instant. His dad became my Pops. His Aunt and Uncle became my Aunt Debbie and my Uncle Scott (I even got a cousin out of the deal and he’s pretty great too). I gained two sisters which for me was a pretty big deal because of my own family history.

I’m sure at the time our relationship was viewed as just that, a high school relationship that would eventually fizzle out. Who knew right?

Well, then I met Granddaddy and Grandma Mall.

I have to admit I was a little scared when I first met Granddad. He is a very tall man and he is the type of man who won’t let you catch a glimpse at his big bright smile especially on that first meeting but, I found a way into his big teddy bear heart (Shh…Don’t tell him but he really is a big ol’ teddy bear with a great big heart). As soon as he found out that I could speak Spanish fluently, I quickly became one of his friends and that is by far one of the best relationships I’ve ever had the chance to experience. Grandma of course is the opposite. She is the grandma everyone dreams of having. She wants to get to know you. She wants to hug you and laugh with you and of course, she wants to feed you. I had the chance to visit with Granddad and Grandma on several occasions. I always felt so welcomed in their home. Whenever I walked into their home, I usually found a game of dominos lying around. I would pick up things here and there about them and their relationship. I was always in awe whenever I was around them. Their love is something you see in their eyes, something you feel when you are around them and a feeling that is carried throughout their home. I knew then that when I got married, I wanted to have exactly what they shared.

Bryanna and I were discussing Granddaddy & Grandma yesterday on the way to school. This was our conversation:

Bry: “Mom that’s really incredible that Granddaddy & Grandma have been married for that many years. That is really really special.”

Me: “It is incredible. They are two very amazing people who love each other very much.”

Bry: “You and Daddy will be married for more than 62 years”

Me: “Why do you say that?”

Bry: “Because Mommy, you two love each other so much! You go together better than peanut butter and grape jelly. You and Daddy complete each other, you two are just perfect!”

Me: I cried

Granddad and Grandma Mall are high school sweethearts who were married after Granddad completed his service in the United States Navy. They have 2 children, 4 grand children, and 9 great grand children.

They have created a family like no other and I am so honored to be a part of the amazing family they created!

Happy 62nd Wedding Anniversary Granddad & Grandma!!!

Your anniversary marks the day

When you both said “I do.”
The two of you became as one,
A marriage bright and new.
Now time has passed; your love is strong;
You passed the early test.
Your tender bond grows with passing time;
Your marriage is the kind that’s best!
