Back to Papa Simpson’s Farm

The last time we made our way down to Papa Simpson’s Farm it was sunny and warm. The kids were comfy in their shorts and t-shirts. This time, the weather was cold and windy. Luckily, kindergartners are little balls of excitement that are bursting at the seams with energy ready to run around no matter what Mother Nature throws their way. It was a little hard for them to stop and listen because if their movements stopped for even a few minutes, their poor little bodies just got too cold. Jason and I both had a few tiny cold hands grab ours to keep warm for a second or two throughout the day. Quite a change we have had in the weather in the past three weeks.

I guess you can say that the weather matched Travin’s teacher’s mood. Sadly, Jason got to see firsthand exactly the things I get to experience every time I set foot into our son’s classroom. From the moment we stepped onto the trailer to enjoy a hayride out to greet the animals, we could tell that she was not completely thrilled to be a part of the exciting day that lie ahead. It was very sad to sit back and watch all of the other teachers interact with their students while our son’s teacher stood off to the side and never said a word. Not once did she ask the children what they thought about the animals, how they felt about the farm, or even if they were having a good time. There will be no pictures of the students from this field trip because she didn’t even bother to bring her camera. I won’t focus too much on this because she is the one who is losing out on these kids. She has a great group of students this year and she is missing out on everything they are willing to give to her!

We had a great time with Travin (and his class). It was fun to spend the day with him. He had been looking forward to this day ever since Kalyssa got to go with her class. Trav got to do all of the things that Kalyssa got to do. The difference is he actually participated in EVERYTHING. He even milked a cow. When I asked how it felt, he just giggled. He said to me “Mommy, I don’t want to drink milk from that cow. It feels funny when it comes out” Travin started his day on the farm by holding a baby chick, a baby pig, and a baby goat. He fell in love with the baby piglet. He actually named it Charlotte. He told me that he wanted to bring it home. I have to say, they were both very cute cuddled up together and it was a little (okay a lot) sad that they were shaking because it was so cold outside. Jason and his amazing Mall/Duff sense of humor (yes the very one I fell in love with) said that the baby piglets were frozen bacon. I swear, he will be the one who will eventually force me to become full on vegetarian :-)

Trav fed the cows, the pigs, and the chickens. He planted some corn kernels and picked a pumpkin from the pumpkin field. He ran through the hay maze with his friends and eventually we made it over to the picnic tables for lunch. When I asked Travin what his favorite part of the field trip was he said “I liked the part when I put the bottle in the baby cow’s mouth. Mommy did you hear him go (at this point he made some sucking sounds) He was so cute! I liked that you and daddy came with me too. I like the farm. It's fun.”

  1. Glad to hear y'all had a good day despite Travin's grumpy teacher.
