A Giveaway for Military Spouses

About a week ago, I was sitting at Travin’s karate class reading a local magazine for moms when I stumbled upon a couple of recipes. Now you all know how much I love pumpkin flavored EVERYTHING!! One of the recipes I found was Crock Pot Pumpkin Spice Lattes. Pumpkin and latte in the same sentence = YUM!! Sounds delicious right? I can’t wait to try the recipe over the Thanksgiving holiday :-) Anyhow, I noticed that there was a blog attached to the recipe. When I got home I looked it up. I was so excited to find a story of a woman who prides herself on being an Air Force wife and a stay at home mommy to two great kids. I have since spent some time reading through her posts. I have printed out several of her recipes. I love that she has a link for menu planning. I have had many friends give me a hard time about my many OCD ways; one of those includes planning my meals two weeks at a time. HA HA! I’m not alone :-)

In honor of Veterans Day, she is giving away a book titled Faith Deployed by Jocelyn Green. If you are a military spouse or know a military spouse who might be interested in this book please feel free to click onto Libby’s link to enter yourself into the drawing for a chance to win this book.

I have slowly started my search for books on deployment. I can honestly say that this is a turning point for me because I am finally allowing myself to reach out to others. It is hard for me to ask for help. I am a person who is full of emotions but I don’t like to show my weak side. I have always felt like I have had to be strong especially when it comes to my family. I am learning that this is not an easy task to keep up. I am learning that the reason I have been able to remain so strong for so long is because I have Jason by my side. He is my rock, my foundation. I look at him and know that together we can accomplish the impossible.

The original plan was for Jason to deploy to Iraq. Just over a week ago, we got word that plans have changed. He will now be deploying to Afghanistan. As of right now, we are either looking at December 21st or December 26th as his departure date. Needless to say the news was a bit of a shock to the system, but as I said before, I know that together we can accomplish the impossible even if we are thousands of miles apart.

Deployment will be tough on the kids and me as well. We are miles away from “home” and miles away from our family and friends. This is the first time in my life that I have been away from my support system and it’s been rough. Everywhere we have ever gone we have been fortunate enough to have had family or we have made great friends who became our family. We haven’t found that here yet. If anyone has any reading suggestions for me or for our kids please feel free to share them with us. We love to visit the library and I love to browse my kindle any chance I get :-)

  2. Try the Airman and Family Readiness Center. Ours has great stuff for the kids. I never have done any of the deployed spouses stuff - I'm just not that social - but they may work too. My favorite book is Chicken Soup for the Military Wife's Soul.
