Happy Mardi Gras Y’ALL!
FAT TUESDAY...The last day to splurge on all of those yummy not so very good for you treats before the ritual fasting of the Lenten season.
Today was definitely a day to indulge in a few extra treats. After a “rough” couple of nights that left my emotions all over the map, I woke up this morning to find myself faced with a very important exam. My head was pounding when I dropped my 3 favorite kids off at school this morning. My heart was still a little heavy and my brain was nowhere near functioning mode. Nonetheless, I made my way over to the testing center in hopes that I would make it through the morning. My thoughts were focused on ordering a Venti Skinny Vanilla Latte. I never order a Venti but, this will be my last Starbucks coffee until Easter Sunday (sigh).
I checked in, placed all of my belongings in a locker, and braced myself for a test that I need in order to even be considered for the Master’s of Education Program at Centenary College. Luckily, my “unofficial” scores were posted as soon as I was finished. The college and the state of Louisiana won’t recieve them for another week or so but I really don’t think I could have waited that long to find out. I still have another exam to prepare for. I have to admit I am gloating just a little because not only did I pass each section but, I passed with really strong scores!!
The first phone call I got when I walked out of the testing center was from My Jay. Could my day get any better?!?! I was so excited to be able to share my news with him first. My Jay has so much faith in me. He is always there rooting for me and encouraging me. He believes in me, supports me and all of my crazy ideas, and he has never ever given up on me. He helps me to reach my goals. He pushes me to be a better person.
I bet you can guess where I drove to right after I left the testing center...YES Starbucks was calling my name loud and clear. And just in case you were wondering, we do have more than 1 here in Louisiana. We might live in the south and all but we are pretty civilized in these parts of the woods =)
Okay enough about my day. There really were some Mardi Gras celebrations going on today. In honor of Fat Tuesday, the kindergartners hosted their annual Mardi Gras parade. The kids got to decorate their very own floats. They got to wear masks as they walked around the whole school and showed off their creations. They threw beads and pieces of candy to all of the “big” kids who sat and watched. You would think that I would be used to the extravagant creations that take place in this school. I mean, we are almost 3/4ths of the way through the school year. But, I have to say that I am always in awe over the things that I see. Everything truly is bigger in the south.
I learned a new saying today and it was really quite fitting for this special event hosted by some pretty amazing little faces so I thought I'd share.

P.S. Have I mentioned lately how much I love kinder kids? I really need to remind myself more often that whenever I need a smile, I just need to go visit a kindergarten class. They always have the best news to share and they always give the best hugs.
