{Seuss~Ville}

I should be focusing on last minute preparations for my exam tomorrow morning but after 4 hours of trying to get through reading and practice tests, my mind and heart are simply falling elsewhere right now. I needed some serious distraction time or at least some happier thoughts to keep my mind off of my grams so, I thought I’d settle in and get some blog therapy for a little while.

I think most of us know who Theodor Seuss Geisel is. Maybe this will help "In my world, everyone's a pony and they all eat rainbows and poop butterflies!" Ring a bell yet? Okay so it’s not one of his more famous quotes but it always puts a smile on my face. How about this one, "The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go."

Most of us know this beloved man as Dr. Seuss. He happens to be one of my favorite people I never met. We love to celebrate Dr. Seuss in our house. If you missed it, last week was Dr. Seuss’ birthday. I always look forward to school activities during this week. Bry makes fun of me for this. I love to make green eggs and we always have to read his books during his birthday week. I will confess that we have almost every single one of his books. She tells me that once I do get to decorate my own classroom, I will have some crazy combination of Dr. Seuss, Eric Carl, and Jan Brett.

This year, I got to carry on my tradition of making green eggs for my favorite kindergartners class. I have been able to do this for all three of my kids. When I was asked if I could do it this year, I jumped at the opportunity. How cool is it that I have been able to celebrate Dr. Seuss with my 3 favorite kids by making green eggs for each of their kindergarten classes?!?!

This year was a little different. Usually on Dr. Seuss day, the teachers have small celebrations in their own classrooms. This year, Trav got to celebrate with all of the kindergarten classrooms. The cafeteria was transformed into one huge party room where the guest of honor was none other than Dr. Seuss. Every table was decorated with balloons, books, bags, and stuffed animals. The kids sang a special birthday song to Dr. Seuss (a few cha-cha cha’s were thrown in too). After the grand opening celebration, the kids ate green eggs, ham, and cupcakes. This was the first year that most of the kids ate ALL of their green eggs and even asked for more. I was shocked! Usually kids pass them up because they look “yucky”. This year was the first year that I actually got to use the quote “I like green eggs and ham! I like them Sam I Am!"

Miss Miss had a special assignment to think of in honor of Dr. Seuss Day. Her job was to find a wacky place to read her favorite Dr. Seuss book. She decided to climb inside our dryer to read her all time favorite...
“The CAT in The HAT”

I happen to think that Dr. Seuss was quite the amazing man. I’ve already included a few of my favorite quotes. However, it wouldn’t feel right if I didn’t add a (small) list of some of my all time favorite words of wisdom shared by Dr. Seuss.

Here are some of my favorite Dr. Seuss quotes:

"Think left and think right and think low and think high. Oh, the thinks you can think up if only you try!"

"From there to here, from here to there, funny things are everywhere!"

"Today you are You, that is truer than true. There is no one alive who is Youer than You."

"You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself any direction you choose. You're on your own. And you know what you know. And YOU are the one who'll decide where to go..."

"You're off to Great Places! Today is your day! Your mountain is waiting, So... get on your way!"

"Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter, and those who matter don't mind."

A person's a person, no matter how small."

You’ll miss the best things if you keep your eyes shut."

“Maybe Christmas,” he thought, “doesn’t come from a store. Maybe Christmas…perhaps…means a little bit more!”

"You know you're in love when you can't fall asleep because reality is finally better than your dreams."
