The sun was bright, the air was warm
The morning promised joy
We felt the thrill of Father's Day
Like every family should
Although their thoughts can still be small
I knew that they could see
That something wasn't right today
A piece was missing from our family tree...
Daddy is away today
It’s been a long 6 months
He’s over in Afghanistan
To keep us safe from harm
We’ve done our best to hold up strong
We’ve kept our house a home
This morning we woke up with joy
We knew just what to do
We had to do it just for Dad
Because he does so much
We filmed a little piece of us
So Daddy could share too
We wanted him to know
Just how much he is adored
We miss him more than words can say
We wish that he was home
We know if he were here this day
He'd make us laugh and hold us close
Our time away from Daddy is coming to an end
In just a few more days he’ll be home with us to stay
There is one thing we've figured out as we celebrate him today
The past six months we stood our ground while daddy did his job
We couldn’t always see quite clearly
But the feeling has always been just right
We’ve never really been alone
Daddy never truly left our side
He guarded us day and night
He kept us close in his heart and never let us go.
