{Dragonfly}

About two weeks ago, I got to spend some time with one of my very best friends in the whole wide world, my sister

I feel very fortunate to have found a best friend in my sister. From day one, I have always been able to share my deepest secrets with her. I’ve never worried about what she would think or how she would react because I have always felt safe with her. She never judged me or criticized me; instead she welcomed me with open arms. I have shared my successes, my failures, my joys, and my sorrows with her. She has been with me every step of the way as I’ve ventured through my life.

This recent visit was a much needed visit. I hadn’t seen my sister in over a year and gosh did I miss her!!! I’ve learned that you don’t always realize just how much you miss someone until you actually see their face and feel their hug.

Besides missing things like our morning coffee chats, hanging out doing nothing, cooking together, and shopping together, the one thing that I really really missed the most was our sister talks. (FYI...while she was here, that was all we did and it was WONDERFUL!!!)

One of the things that we talked about was a new journey that she is paving for herself. It’s a journey that is leading her towards personal spiritual growth. It was quite amazing to listen to her talk about it. I have to admit, I am very proud of her!!

Anyhow, in our discussion about life we got to chatting about the meaning behind certain things. One of the topics that came up was dragonflies.

Let me explain that since moving to the south, I have found a new appreciation for dragonflies. They are EVERYWHERE!!!! One of my favorite things about running outside is being able to run alongside dragonflies. I can’t even explain how beautiful and serene a run becomes when you are surrounded by dragonflies.

The day before my sister’s visit, I laced up my shoes and took my jog outside. I didn’t think anything of it at the time but for some reason, that day two dragonflies stayed by my side for 3 miles. I was in complete awe but instead of thinking about it, I simply enjoyed their presence.

My sister being who she is, loved everything that I had to share so of course had some secrets of her own to share too. The story doesn’t end there because the very next day after we had our dragonfly sister chat, something quite spectacular happened. As we walked around looking at the beautiful sites in Natchitoches, one little friend decided to make its presence known. Not only did a beautiful dragonfly hover around us but, it also let me get really close. While it was perched upon an old metal cross headstone, I literally was able to align my big round face with its teeny tiny head. The best part, it didn’t move unless someone else got close but as soon as they walked away it would land again. I was absolutely speechless.

Needless to say, that night my curiosity about dragonflies peaked and so now, a new journey has taken shape.

I’m learning a lot about these amazing little creatures. For some reason I feel very connected to the things that I am reading and discovering. My only guess is that it is because of where I am in my life right now. Someday I will share the lessons I am learning but for now, I am composing my thoughts. However, I will share one passage that I recently read. The words are ingrained in my brain so I tend to carry them close to my heart.

Dragonfly is the keeper of dreams, the knower within that sees all of our true potential and ability. Dragonfly strips away the illusions that say to us we cannot achieve our dreams and goals, that we are not worthy or capable when in fact we have the power to manifest anything that we desire, create anything we choose! Dragonfly reminds us that anything is possible.”
