{Training Plan}

Okay so I totally, completely, and utterly SUCK!!!

Maybe it’s not that bad but really it kind of is. The month of August is here!! Jason and I are officially 5 months away from running our big Goofy Race at Disney World and I have yet to get started on my full training schedule.

Wait...Do you ever get that butterfly drop in the pit of your stomach feeling? Well that just happened to me!! It just hit me that exactly 5 months from today’s date, we will be in Florida running the first part of our 40 mile (39.3 miles to be exact) excursion!!! Holy goodness!!! If that isn’t a wake up reality slap in the face call, I’m not sure what is!!

I forgot how hard training can be during the summer months. Not because of the weather but simply because I have a bus full of children who reside in my house =) Call me crazy...overprotective...maybe irrational (at least according to my 11 year who is completely ready to babysit full-time) but I am not ready to leave my children alone just yet.

Being that I am not ready to walk out the door leaving 3 children unattended, causes some training issues for me. You see, my friend "Mr. Kick My Tushy Treadmill" lives at the gym and unless I run at 6 AM when it’s not 110* feels like 120* outside even at 8 o'clock at night, I’m not running. Sorry, I really don’t feel like passing out due to heat exhaustion (yes people there is a reason why they put those warnings out there...just sayin’). Oh and here’s the thing, waking up my 11 year old so that she can go for a bike ride while I run at 6 AM is probably NOT going to happen anytime soon. You try waking up a pre-teen hormones are lurking behind the corner girl before she’s ready to wake up.(P.S. Let me know how well that works out for you!!!)

So anyhow, August is here. I am a little nervous about getting my training underway. I have A LOT of catching up to do!!! However, that bus full of kids will be headed off to school this week...YAY!!!!...Oh wait am I not supposed to be doing cartwheels as I type those words? =) haha {J/K}

Now down to business...For those of you who asked...

It’s ALL about the t~r~a~i~n~i~n~g...right?!?!

This will be our first marathon. Not only are we running a marathon but, we are a running a marathon with a half marathon on the side =) Nothing like jumping in with both feet for novice runners, right?!?!  And in case you were wondering I am beyond super excited about it!!!

My training for this event is a little different than what I have done in the past. I am used to running 5 days a week so this is going to be a challenge for me but after reading a book written by Olympian Jeff Galloway, I have decided to take his advice and follow a training plan that he specifically designed for this event. The last thing I want to do is get hurt which actually happened to me before my first half marathon. My goals besides finishing this event standing in an upright position are to get through it without enduring to much pain and to also avoid any and all injuries.

~My Training Plan~

Monday/Wednesday:
Cardio- 30 minutes of biking or swimming followed by weight training

Tuesday/Thursday:
30-45 minutes of running

Friday:
45 minutes of cardio

Saturday:
Long Distance Running Day

I mentioned that I am a little behind schedule. The training plan is designed for 28 full weeks of consistent training. I am behind 6 weeks so I have some catching up to do. Luckily the way the program is laid out, I have a chance to make up my miles.

We have a long road ahead of us! However, we are facing it together and what better way to greet new challenges than to face them with your very best friend in the whole wide world!!!
