My last post was all about a new challenge I found. Not just any ol’ challenge but a reading challenge. I have to admit, after I pressed the enter button and submitted my name, I questioned what I was doing. It sunk in pretty fast that I put myself up to quite the task. 100 books in 1 year!!! Let’s get this straight….There are 52 weeks in a year so that means that I have to average at least two books a week. This probably shouldn’t seem so bad but, when I think about how my days tend to go and what my evenings look like, sometimes getting 10 minutes of “ME” reading time is a little challenging. On the plus side, I have quite a few books saved in my kindle but, unfortunately most of them are by Kristin Hannah and I think I might be skipping Kristin Hannah on this reading challenge considering the fact that her books usually consist of 500 pages of small print =)
Back to a little more bragging =) This morning we got on the subject of reading. Bryanna was catching me up on the book she is reading and Kalyssa started chatting about one of the books that she is working on for her AR test this week. I mentioned to them that I signed myself up for a reading challenge. They were both curious so I explained all of the rules. They both asked me if they could do it with me. Yup, my heart melted! I honestly can’t think of a better challenge to be doing with my girls. We set a goal. They both really wanted to start out with 100 books each but after a long discussion, we decided to set their goal at 52 books each with the option to change that number when the first goal has been reached =)
I mentioned before that one of my goals for my children was to instill a passion for reading and a love for books in their hearts. I can’t even begin to describe what it feels like to watch each of them find their own place within the wonderful world of reading. As you can tell, I am super excited about all of this! I promised them that we would track their progress on our family blog, that way Daddy can see it too. (Our 2011 reading challenge is listed on the right side of the page. You might have to scroll down a bit to see it).
I signed “us girls” up with accounts at goodreads.com. If you are ever in the neighborhood, look us up so that we can help each other find some good books to read (especially over the next year).
P.S. I know in my heart that my daughters just inspired all of you to at least pick up one book to read this year and I have to admit, that's pretty AWESOME!!!! =)
With that in mind, what book are you reading?

I'm so jealous because Zach doesn't enjoy reading so much. But, I'm still reading The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. It's long and I've not had too much time to read for fun while I figure out how to manage school, homework, Zach's school stuff, and the house? How did you do it with three??
ReplyDeleteI'm on goodreads.com! I love that site. I am trying to do a book a week.
ReplyDeleteHa Ha read in my spare time with three kids while trying to go to school full time, keep up with their school work, a husband, and a house...I didn't even know what reading a good book meant =) Guess that's why I'm trying my best to enjoy the time when I can get a few minutes in. Good Luck!!! Hey but I'm totally impressed that you have a book open. I never even got that far =)
ReplyDeleteJess I found you!!!
I accepted you! I tried looking for you, but it told me you weren't on there..they lied to me. haha
ReplyDeleteHave you ever read anything by Katie Crouch? I found a couple of her books at the library and they sounded interesting so I picked them up.
