!Big News!

If you read yesterday’s post, you would understand just how excited we all were about finally making it to Friday. Well, as luck would have it, Mr. Groundhog’s predictions for an early spring seemed to have excluded us here in south. This morning we woke up to a blanket of snow which caused our entire city to shut down. Now don’t laugh to hard if you live up in the north! We here in Louisiana aren’t exactly used to this white stuff. I read somewhere this morning that the temperatures where colder in Louisiana and Texas than in Alaska! Really?!?! I would have to say that YES I agree that the world has gone mad. =) This is NOT normal!!!

Needless to say, our recycled creations will have to wait until next week to make their world debut. On a more positive note, the kids aren’t exactly sulking at the fact that they get a day off from school to play in the snow. The last time I posted some pictures of the “snow” we got, was really just a cold tease. This time we have enough snow to build a snowman, make some snow angels, and even have a snowball fight. I guess it’s a good thing I stalked up on some hot chocolate for our Keurig. A cup of hot chocolate and  cup of coffee for mom in less than one minute! I don’t know about my children but I know that I will be warming myself up with a hot beverage (or two) this afternoon =)

Before I go try to dig out some warm clothes, I had to share Bryanna’s Big News. Yesterday was the Science/Social Studies Fair at the school. All of the 4th & 5th graders had to present their projects in front of a group of judges. Before I get ahead of myself, let me take a few steps back. Wednesday I spent my morning helping the 4th & 5th graders set up their projects. By the time the other volunteers and I were done, we had set up over 300 projects. I have to say, I was so amazed at the ideas that I saw. The work that the kids had put into their projects left me speechless. I am so thankful that I wasn’t chosen to be a judge. I had the opportunity to talk to some of the kids as they set up their projects and they were all so great! Being a judge had to have been so tough!

On Thursday morning I dropped Bryanna off at school and wished her lots of luck. She was so nervous. She has participated in a Science Fair before but not one of this scale. This event is a pretty big deal here. This is only phase one. The next step for the top winners is Regional’s. I hope that you all had a chance to see her video presentation because she truly did an amazing job. I am so proud of her work and her dedication but what makes me beam with pride the most is the confidence my daughter has in herself and her work. She truly is an inspiration!

Anyhow, I was waiting for the kids at the bus stop yesterday (in the car with the heater running at full blast). When the bus pulled up, Bry came running off the bus with a ribbon in her hands. She jumped in the car and said “Mommy Mommy! Guess what? Guess what? I got second place in my category!” Of course I didn’t have a chance to guess the news but I was able to hug her and congratulate her before she jumped back out of the car and ran up the street to catch up with her friend.

Not too shabby for being the only girl in her class to do a science project!!

  1. Wait - those science projects weren't required? They were here. Zach found out last night that they were being judged - he didn't win, but his friend did and being the good sport that he is he was happy. But next year he's going to try harder because he loves to get recognized! Again, great job Bry (and mom!)

  2. Kris, they were required. It was a good chunck of their grade. They had the choice to do Science or Social Studies. Bry was the only girl in her class that did science. I was told that only a total of 5 girls chose to do science projects. Most of the projects were done on social studies topics.

And she said Thank You!! =)
