{Our Flag}

This morning was quite the morning for my little Miss. Over the past few days she has been working really hard on memorizing a special patriotic poem. Last Thursday, we were informed that she would be participating in the American Heritage Poetry Contest.

Her teacher chose her along with one of her friends to lead the first grade class. To say that Kalyssa was excited would be an understatement. I have never seen her so eager to participate in an event before. She spent all weekend reciting the words to a poem that she picked out with her teacher. She explained to me that she wanted to do this for her Daddy because, “Daddy is the reason we fly our flag every day”. Yup, you guessed correctly, tears streamed down my face as I hugged my little Miss.

On the way to school this morning, Kalyssa said to me “Mommy my tummy feels funny. I think I’m nervous.” I told her that she must have butterflies fluttering around in her tummy. Her reaction was priceless. She thought it was pretty funny that she had butterflies in her tummy and she couldn’t wait to share that information with her teacher. =)

I made sure to get a front row seat this morning. Kalyssa was among 20 first, second, and third grade participants. The video sound is not that great. The sound system that was used was not exactly kid friendly. It was really hard to hear but I have to say, all of the kids that participated did an amazing job.

Jason requested a video of just Kalyssa reciting her poem. So, my goal will be to post a video of her later on tonight so that everyone can hear her better.

She worked so hard and her effort truly paid off this morning. She did a really great job!! I am definitely a proud mommy!!
