{Perfectly Goofy}

I have been anxiously waiting for today to make its appearance and it FINALLY decided to show up! Why all of the excitement? Well, today Disney Sports opened up its registration for the 2012 Walt Disney World Marathon. At noon (Eastern Time) registration was officially opened. Yes, I was sitting at my computer at 10:50 am my time (Central Time) patiently waiting with butterflies floating around in my stomach. Don’t laugh! I know you are laughing right now =)

Let me explain a few things because I’m really not crazy well not completely anyway. We {The Mall Family} have a little secret...

In case you might have missed a few things on here like our family button or the JSBKT picture down at the bottom of the page or even the pictures that incorporate Disney in some way or another. Heck maybe the name of our blog didn’t give away any subtle hints at all about our little secret...

Are you ready for our secret????????????????????????????????????

Are you sure????????????????????????????????????????????????????

SURPRISE

WE ABSOLUTELY LOVE DISNEY EVERYTHING!!!

It probably wasn’t much of a surprise was it?

Disney has always been a big part of our lives. We are pretty big fans of Disneyland. Jason and I both worked there. Jason asked me to become his happily ever after in front of Sleeping Beauty’s Castle. Most of our family vacations have been centered around Disneyland or Disney World. I can’t even begin to count the number of birthdays, holidays, anniversaries, and just because events that were spent at Disneyland. Disneyland became "our" J & S special place when we were able to share one of our first "real" dates there on my 16th birthday. It has always represented a little magic in our lives. Eventually we were able to share the Disney Magic with our kids. The memories created throughout the years have been unforgettable.

As most of you know, in 2009 Jason and I ran our first 1/2 marathon. It was one of those wild WOW I’m turning 30, I want to do something different, hey I’m going to run a 1/2 marathon for my birthday ideas. Fun stuff right? I don’t remember what I was thinking at the time and everyone thought I was crazy but as it turns out, it was one of the best decisions I ever made for myself.

Jason and I ran the 1/2 marathon together. He doesn’t really like to run all that much but he did it because he wanted to do it with me. Remember what I said about how he is always there rooting for me and encouraging me? Yup, he is pretty incredible!! I’m pretty sure I will keep him well, forever!

The Disneyland 1/2 marathon was by far the best running event I have ever experienced (I can't speak for Jason on this one, maybe he will leave a comment to give his side of the story [=). Okay now I know that I got to run through Disneyland and the Castle where My Jay once got down on one knee. I got to greet some of my favorite characters and as an added bonus, I GOT TO RUN THROUGH ANGEL STADIUM!!! I know that I haven’t experienced very many events (I am working on that) however aside from all of that really GREAT stuff, it truly was an event that I will never forget and one that inspired me to keep going. When I crossed the finish line, the first thing that went through my mind was “I can do this again!”

That weekend we happen to meet some really amazing people. We heard some great “runners” stories. One of the events that we talked about was the big Walt Disney World Marathon. Jason and I were very new to the running world at that point. We really had no idea what we were doing or what to expect. We were both just focused on crossing the finish line without having to be picked up by the paramedic. We learned that Disney World hosts a 3 day running event. They have kid races, a family run, a 5K, a 1/2 marathon, a full marathon, and Goofy’s Race. As soon as I heard about Goofy's Race, I decided to do little research on my own. When I read about it, I knew immediately that one of my running goals would be to someday complete Goofy’s Challenge.

What is Goofy’s Race?

It’s Donald. It’s Mickey. It’s just plain Goofy! The real name of the event is actually called Goofy’s Race and Half Challenge. This event calls for a 1/2 marathon on Saturday and a full marathon on Sunday {13.1 + 26.2 = 39.3}.

On January 7th & 8th 2012 Jason and I will put our endurance to the test by trying to complete a total of 39.3 miles. We have officially signed up to run both a half marathon and a full marathon in hopes of earning all 3 medals that will be awarded to those who cross the finish line. A little Goofy? To most it probably is but the fact that we are doing it together makes it just a little magical for this girl =)
