{Secret Garden}

There has been an overwhelming request from others wishing to see the improvements the kids and I made in our yard last week. I have to admit, I’m feeling a little flattered (okay A LOT flattered)!!!

I don’t exactly have that “green thumb”. There are very few trees and flowers I can actually name. I usually call my mom or the Greatest Aunt Elaine and the Greatest Aunt Cindy for help. They are better than Google when it comes to gardening. I don’t have any real plants in my home for fear that I will annihilate them. Jason doesn’t normally buy me flowers, not because he doesn’t want to but simply because I can’t keep them alive long enough to enjoy them.

The kids have been begging me to get the garden done. It was looking a little shabby. We haven’t done anything to it since we moved in and I will admit we had “that yard”. Completely embarrassing...right??? I wasn’t proud of it but in my defense, I wasn’t really sure what I wanted to do with it. The hardest decision has been brick and brick placement. Our house sits on a hill so that presents a little bit of a challenge well, at least for me. I still haven’t gotten that far. I already explained to Jason that brick has been added to his Welcome Home “Hunny” Do List =)

I finally made some decisions on Friday. It completely helped that the BX was having a huge sidewalk sale. Everything was at least 50% off. Any of you who know me, know that I am always on the lookout for a bargain. The less green stuff that finds its way out of my wallet the BETTER! I just couldn’t walk away from all of the pretty flowers and the bags of mulch. I knew that I wouldn’t be able to find that price again so, I loaded my cart with more than I probably needed. One thing I’m really good at is filling my shopping cart and with items priced at least 50% off and with no sales tax, a girls simply gotta do what a girls gotta do! I was able to find a few more things to add to our “curb appeal” =)

I made my way home and somehow managed to unload everything by myself before the kids got off the bus. When they ran up into the yard, they were so excited to see what I had purchased. My secret shopping adventure ended up being one heck of a surprise for my 3 favorite kids in the whole wide world! We spent the rest of our afternoon pulling some weeds, planting flowers, and arranging mulch.
