{WDW Marathon: Part1}

How exactly do I begin?

There is so much that I’d like to share about our BIG marathon weekend. I will do my best to stay on track.

The trip to Florida was by far one of the BEST experiences of my life! I never in a million years would have imagined myself walking away from this event with more passion in my heart than before. I never in million years would have thought that I would have formed new friendships. I never understood the bonds that are created between couples and families over one simple meal. I never fully understood encouragement, inspiration, and motivation until I shook hands with people like Sid Busch and the others who sat with us in front of the fireplace at Shades of Green. Nothing can compare to these little moments!

My nerves kicked in before we left home. I was beyond excited about our trip but unfortunately, I was battling my own fears. I was very worried that my foot injury was going to prevent me from finishing a race that I had dreamed about running for over two years. I was really scared that I would hurt myself worse than before. The last thing I wanted to do was end up confined to the big ugly black boot again or even worse a cast!

I questioned whether or not I could endure two days of long runs. Before my foot injury, my longest run had been 14 miles. I never had the chance to attempt 15 miles or 20 miles so how exactly was I going to run 26.2? How exactly was I going to run a full marathon after running a half marathon?

Although I spent hours reading anything and everything I could find about marathon training, I had no idea how to fuel my body. I had no clue how to hydrate for this type of run. I didn’t have the opportunity to see what would work for me and what wouldn’t.

I will admit, I was the runner who over packed!! I didn’t know what to pack so, I packed everything! I was prepared for winter, summer, spring, and fall. I’m pretty sure I had enough GU and chews to fuel a small army.

Garmin (check)
I-pod (check)
2 pairs of shoes (check)
Cute Accessories (check)
Body Glide (check)
Epsom Salt (double check)

I even packed the black boot. Call me superstitious but I needed to feel safe rather than sorry!!!

Jason and I talked a lot about what we hoped to accomplish. Before my injury, I had set some pretty high goals for myself. Jason went into this race without any training (DON’T EVER TAKE THIS APPROACH) and I was semi-broken. We were quite the running duo! Needless to say, our hope was simply to be able to finish.

We spent our first day exploring Hollywood Studios. This was the first time EVER at Disney World that we were able to bypass the really long “kiddie” lines and take on the big kid rides without having to get a parent pass!!!

Rockin’ Roller Coaster!
Tower of Terror!
Star Tours...party of...2!!

Thursday January 5th:
Expo Day/Pasta in the Park

Attending a running expo is one of my favorite things to do. The excitement in the air is absolutely unreal. This is really the first time you get to meet and greet other runners. You get to hear stories and ask questions. You get to listen to guest speakers and best of all you get to go shopping!

Words of encouragement are exchanged. Positive vibes are shared.

The expo is the moment where everything becomes real! For the first time, you get to hold YOUR race number!!!

This is also the first time you get to rip open your goody bag!!! Disney has the BEST!!!

If you runDisney then you get to show your support for your running partner in a really fun way!

If you are REALLY lucky, then you get the chance to experience Pasta in the Park. A night full of carbs and characters.

Friday was our day to take it easy. We spent a few hours roaming the realms of Animal Kingdom. We just had to visit the new baby elephant, and the giraffes, and the hippos, and yes even the crocodiles.

Saturday January 7th:
Donald’s 1/2 Marathon

Wake up time: 2:45 AM

After a quick breakfast, gearing up, and extra tape around my foot, we headed outside to brave the winter like temperatures to load the bus that would take us to Epcot.

Over 25,000 runners shuffled their way to the starting line. Jason and I were in corral G, which meant that we were the seventh wave of runners to flow forward.

The 5:30 am race started with wheelchair racers and then moved onto the elite runners. 45 minutes later, our countdown began and we were off!

My endorphins kicked in and my injury was forgotten as soon as I crossed over the starting line. I can’t exactly say that was a great thing but the smile on my face was pretty dang BIG!!!

Jason and I managed to stay together for the first leg of the race. We lost sight of each other for a while but somehow managed to find each other again when we were inside Magic Kingdom. I made a few stops along the way for some pictures.

As soon as I had my picture taken with experiment 626,

I looked up and saw Jason turning the corner that leads from Tomorrowland into Fantasyland. I bolted my way through the crowd of runners to catch up to him, which was well worth it because...

WE GOT TO RUN THROUGH CINDERELLA’S CASTLE TOGETHER!!!!

We lost each other again but then he found me standing in line patiently waiting to meet the supercalifragilisticexpialidocious gang

I didn't find Donald on day one but I did find his favorite grouchy uncle.

Almost there!

Mile 13
 Gateway to the
FINISH LINE!

Official Chip Times:
Shannon: 2:44:56

Not our best times but most definitely one of the best running experiences EVER!

The "15th Anniversary Bling" was pretty impressive!!!

{Embrace the Camera: 1.12.12}

I have been absent for a whole week!

Did you miss me?

I sure missed a ton of stuff from the blogging world!!!

It’s a little crazy how just one week away from the computer can cause one to feel as if they have missed out on a lifetime of events!

Anyhow, in case you didn’t know,
Jason and I took a little vacation.

Our first vacation EVER without kids in tow!

That’s almost 12 years!!!

Pretty exciting...RIGHT!!!!

No kids and guess where we I decided to go...

DISNEY WORLD!!!

I know I know WORST MOM award goes to ME!!! =)

On the bright side, I took lots of pictures and sent updates daily!

I’m just kidding!!! Well kind of =)

Actually the whole point of going on this trip was to run our very first marathon.

Now you are thinking “and the Crazy Woman Award goes to…”

Because not only did we I plan this vacation around running but, we I decided to take on our first marathon Goofy style which amounts to 39.3 miles of running!

Before I break out the big guns and share our story, I thought I would take today’s session of

and share a few of my favorite pictures with My Favorite Jay in the whole wide world as we ventured through Disney World with NO KIDS!!!

~Hollywood Studios~

~Epcot~

~Animal Kingdom~

{I'm Too Excited...}

Remember this commercial?

I'm too excited to sleep!!!! I read until my brain shut itself off, I tossed and turned, and eventually at 5:06 AM I gave up and decided to get out of bed.

My suitcase has been packed and repacked. Our tickets are printed and in my purse. All arrangements have been finalized. The children are set for the whole week that we will be gone (we even had to pick out what to wear and what to make for lunches). I have gone over my list at least a dozen times.

Today Jason and I will embark on our journey to the sunshine state. I think I’m in a bit of shock that this day is actually here! I have been planning this trip in my mind for over a year. I have been dreaming of this run since I ran my first half marathon back in 2009. I have been working hard for this moment for almost a year.

I am beyond excited to be able to attempt to take on not only one but two of my “life list” goals but, I am also extremely sad that I can’t take them on the way I had envisioned myself doing so.

I have so many emotions fleeting through me. I’m nervous, excited, happy, terrified, anxious, worried, and even a little apprehensive (thanks Papa for finding my 7th dwarf). I have spent A LOT of time reflecting on my goals for this race. I was forced to take a step back, take a deep breath, and reevaluate. So that is exactly what I have done.

I scratched out all of my original goals and started fresh. It was not an easy thing to do. I will admit, I shed a few tears. I had big hopes for this event but then I read something

If Plan A doesn't work out don't worry, you still have 25 letters left!

This is what I hope to accomplish as I set out to complete the “Goofiest” race of the year with my most favorite Jay in the whole wide world!

Keep a 12 minute mile pace
Run in 5k increments
Take as many pictures as possible
Have the MOST fun I’ve ever had at any running event
Cross the finish line with the BIGGEST smile on my face
Walk away holding 3 medals in my right hand and My Jay's hand in my left hand

Running for the bling 2012....Disney World Marathon...1/2 Marathon...Just Plain Goofy!

Wish us luck! Extra thoughts and prayers would be greatly appreciated! Thank You! Thank You! Oh and before I forget, if you would like to track us on our running journey, you can create an account by clicking here. You can receive tracking updates via email, text messages, Facebook, or Twitter.

Thank you for all of your support, encouragement, and thoughtful words and a very special THANK YOU to my mom and dad for not only supporting us every step of the way but for also taking on our roles as mom and dad to our 3 kids and our 1 "4-legged" kid and for taking care of our home. Lord knows it's not an easy job to undertake!

We love you ALL!!!

{New Years 5k}

Happy 2012

As most of you know, I was absent from the running world for about 5 weeks. LONGEST 5 WEEKS EVER!!! I can’t explain how much I missed my daily runs. Have you ever heard others talk about how running can change the course of one’s day and even their mood or how running is therapeutic, soothing, and sometimes even serene? Those are just a few of the feelings I missed! I missed waking up in the morning, lacing up my shoes, and venturing into the world around me. I missed that feeling that I got after each run where I was excited to face my day, eager to see what was in store for me. Running has given me an inner strength to tackle things head on, a confidence in knowing that I can handle my own.

A few months ago, I found this great blog. LOTS OF RUNNING INPIRATION going on!!!! The writer, Ms. K hosted a series of virtual 5k’s for the holiday season. You may remember my participation as Batman’s sidekick in the Halloween 5k back in October. I was so excited to be able to partake in these events. You all know the story by now and sadly, I had to rest my foot for awhile.

BUT...

I healed just in time for the final race of the series!!!

The New Years Virtual 5K

The extra perks (there are a few)

I was able to RUN a full 5k!!!
My last run of 2011 was a 5k!!!
I was able to run this race with a few of my favorite people in the whole wide world!!

Best of all...

Although my legs are a little sore,
I am feeling strong and ready to tackle running in 2012!!!
